Professor Hong Suk Gyun, Surgical Liver Transplantation Team (Seo Gyung Seok, Lee Gwang Woon, Lee Nam Jun and Hong Suk Gyun) of Seoul National University Hospital received ‘rising star’ award together with his mento, professor Seo Gyung Seok in International Liver Transplantation Society which was held in Lisbon, Portugal on May 24th. The 'Rising Star' award is given to those young medical scientists under age 40 who have contributed greatly to the development of global liver transplantation. So far, the only Korean winner was Professor Choi Young Rok of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital.
Professor, Hong has been recognized for his outstanding performance and stability in the unique “pure laparoscopic approach to donor hepatectomy” at Seoul National University Hospital. The academic worlds say that this innovative liver transplantation technology has made a significant contribution to establishing the center of transplantation from the West to Asia. Recently, advanced countries such as USA, Europe, and Japan are visiting Seoul National University Hospital to learn this technology.
Professor Hong expressed his feeling, 'I am proud that the level of liver transplantation in Korea is recognized globally.' 'I will continue my efforts to make Korea the center of the world in the field of transplantation.'
