- Utilized the network with healthcare professionals in Mongolia to successfully host an effective online medical consultation session
Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (SNUBH) International Healthcare Center (IHC) held an online medical consultation session for Mongolian patients on October 26, 2021. The consultation session was held as part of the Region-Specific Medical Technology Program implemented together with Bobath Memorial Hospital and Seongnam City Government to build a Medical Center for Morbid Obesity.
With the prolonged COVID-19 situation, patients outside Korea who have been dependent on Korean medical institutions are experiencing delays in diagnosis and treatment. In Mongolia, which is lagging behind in the medical sector, the demand for consultation with Korean medical specialists is especially high. Of particular note, a survey conducted by the Mongolian Ministry of Health has shown that 55% of the Mongolian population are obese, many of whom consequently suffer from metabolic syndrome, requiring urgent treatment.
In light of such demand, an online consultation session was held with Dr. Choi Sung-hee (Dept. of Endocrinology and Metabolism), Director of SNUBH IHC; Dr. Lee Won-jae, Professor of Cardiology; Dr. Lee Seung-yeon, Professor of Family Medicine; and Dr. Kim Jin-gyu, Director of Bobath Memorial Hospital International Hospital (Dept. of Neurology), providing medical consultation and neurological treatment to Mongolian patients suffering from cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and other endocrinological diseases.
SNUBH has been networking with Mongolian medical professionals, holding an international webinar with the medical staff from the Fourth Hospital in Mongolia on October 5, 2021. Based on such exchanges, medical records of Mongolian patients referred to by the Mongolian medical staff were reviewed in advance so that necessary tests could be carried out locally in advance, and online videoconferencing medical consultation was successfully carried out based on the results.
Choi Sung-hee, Director of SNUBH IHC, said, “It brings me great joy to be able to provide medical consultation to Mongolian patients with fewer opportunities to obtain quality medical services due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [...] We are preparing for an online medical consultation session for patients in Kazakhstan this November, and we will continue our efforts to lay the foundations for attracting overseas patients and promoting the excellence of Korean healthcare.”
