Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine announced on July 29 that it will hold the Jaseng International Symposium (Annual Jaseng Academic, AJA) 2023 on August 13 at the Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul with the theme “Integrated medical perspectives.”
The symposium this year, which is the fourth in its series, is jointly organized by Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine and Michigan State University in the USA, and discussions will be held with 10 foremost experts in the area of medical science at home and abroad including the USA, UK, Canada and Australia, etc. to seek the direction for the future advancement of integrated medicine.
In the first session of the symposium this year, the latest trends in manipulation therapy methods to reduce the side effects of invasive treatment and medicines will be dealt with from various angles with the theme “integrated medical manipulation therapy and clinical application.” Dr. Jun Sik Shin, the founder of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine, will give the keynote lecture. Dr. Shin will kick off the symposium with a presentation on “Integrated medical approach to temporomandibular joint dysfunction: Chuna manual therapy and motion style acupuncture therapy.” This will be followed by discussions on osteopathic manipulative therapy on the ribs, the latest trends and grounds for Korean medicinal therapy on neck pain, and osteopathic manipulative therapy on cervical vertebrae and shoulder joints.
In the second session, discussions will be held on the theme “evidence-based medical perspectives, acupuncture therapy and manipulative therapy.” Dr. David Koginka, editor-in-chief of the globally renowned academic journal Acupuncture in Medicine, will give a presentation on “Safety of acupuncture therapy during pregnancy” as the first speaker in the second session. This will be followed by presentations on acupuncture therapy for chronic pain: maximization of the use of Western and Eastern medicine and acupuncture therapy in the Olympics.
The second portion of the second session will be composed of academic sessions based on various objective research data. The planned presentations on specific research results include false acupuncture and placebo effects in acupuncture therapy, a Cochran review on lumbar and cervical vertebral pain intervention, and the key sensual characteristics of the sensation of acupuncture.
In addition, the symposium will provide refresher training for the maintenance of licenses of medical staff. Since Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine was the first hospital in Korea to be designated as a formally accredited educational institution by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) of USA in 2021, medical staff from 30 countries including the USA, Canada etc. can acquire a maximum of five credits for the refresher training GPA in accordance with the [American Medical Association (AMA) Physician‘s Recognition Award (PRA) Category 1 Credit™]. It is also possible to have the GPA accredited with refresher training by the Association of Korean Medicine, the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) of the USA and the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia. Not only medical professionals but also anyone interested in medical science can participate in the Jaseng International Symposium 2023 without any qualification restrictions.
