Which hospitals are considered the best in the world? The American news magazine Newsweek recently announced its list of the ‘World’s Best Hospitals 2025.’
Newsweek, in collaboration with the global research firm Statista, evaluated around 2,400 hospitals across 30 countries based on recommendations from medical professionals, patient satisfaction, and other factors, selecting 250 outstanding hospitals.
Among the hospitals ranked within the top 250 worldwide, a total of eight are members of the Korea International Medical Association (KIMA). Among them, Asan Medical Center (25th), Samsung Medical Center (30th), Seoul National University Hospital (42nd), Severance Hospital (46th), and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (68th) ranked within the top 100. They were followed by Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (108th), Korea University Anam Hospital (181st), and Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (223rd).
A total of 16 KIMA member hospitals were included in the list of the best hospitals in Korea. Asan Medical Center (1st), Samsung Medical Center (2nd), Seoul National University Hospital (3rd), Severance Hospital (4th), Seoul National University Bundang Hospital (5th), Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital (8th), Korea University Anam Hospital (13th), Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital (16th), Hanyang University Medical Center (44th), Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital (55th), Bumin Hospital (77th), Sun Medical Center (86th), Jeju Halla Hospital (89th), HanGil Eye Hospital (98th), Incheon Sejong Hospital (124th), and the National Cancer Center in the special (oncology) category were included.
The evaluation criteria consisted of △ an online survey of physicians, healthcare professionals, and hospital administrators across 30 countries (40%), △ medical performance indicators (37.5%), △ patient satisfaction surveys (17.5%), and △ the implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) (5%). For Korean hospitals, additional evaluations conducted by the Health Insurance Review & Assessment Service (HIRA) on intensive care units, acute diseases, cancer, medication safety, as well as patient experience surveys on doctors, nurses, and hospital environment were reflected in the assessment
