- Stellar performance across the board, from laboratory operations to molecular and cellular genetics, securing a perfect score in external quality control
The Sung Sam Medical Foundation's MizMedi Hospital proudly declared on the 21st that its iDream Institute has been conferred an 'A' rating in the 2022 Genetic Testing Institution Quality Assessment organized by the Korea Institute of Genetic Testing Evaluation.
The hospital has objectively solidified its standing as a superior genetic testing institution by continually securing an 'A' rating across all categories — facilities, equipment, personnel, laboratory operation, molecular genetics, and cellular genetics — and receiving a perfect score of 100 in external quality control, unbroken since the inauguration of the evaluation in 2010.
The iDream Institute at MizMedi Hospital boasts unmatched technical proficiency, with thirty years of prowess in the pivotal embryo culture system integral to infertility treatment. The institute's unique embryo culture and monitoring systems enable real-time observation and analysis of embryos and its cellular activation apparatus helps in creating an environment that resembles the natural setting where pregnancy progresses.
In 2021, MizMedi Hospital effectively spearheaded a successful pregnancy and subsequent childbirth for a 47-year-old woman utilizing her eggs. This remarkable success illustrates the harmonious synchronization of iDream Center's methodical clinical system as well as its advanced facilities and equipment with the relentless efforts and technical acumen of the medical and research teams.
MizMedi Hospital has been a trailblazer in infertility treatments, with accomplishments including the world's first embryo transplant via the uterine wall in 1991 and attaining the first normal pregnancy through fluorescent in situ hybridization for a habitual abortion patient in 1995. In 1996, the hospital pioneered in vitro fertilization using intracytoplasmic sperm injection in Korea, and in 2001, it performed the country's first minimally invasive testicular tissue retrieval operation using a surgical microscope. Continually pushing the boundaries and achieving progress in the realm of infertility treatments, MizMedi Hospital was the first in Korea to introduce a method for examining DNA damage within sperm nuclei in 2006.
