Hanyang University Medical Center Introduces Single-Port Robot ‘Da Vinci SP’… to Enhance Medical Services Hanyang University Medical Center has announced the introduction and full-scale operation of the state-of-the-art robotic surgery system, Da Vinci SP.With this addition, Hanyang University Medical Center now operates two cutting-edge robotic surgical systems, including the previously installed Da Vinci Xi, enabling improved medical services for patients. The Da Vinci SP represents a technological evolution in robotic surgery, allowing procedures through a single-port approach, which requires smaller incisions compared to conventional robotic systems. Since the robotic arm is inserted through a single incision, it leaves minimal scarring, enhancing cosmetic satisfaction while also reducing the risk of infection and speeding up recovery. Additionally, by minimizing tissue damage, it decreases postoperative pain and shortens hospital stays. The robotic arm of the Da Vinci SP operates freely in 360 degrees, even within narrow spaces, enabling surgeons to perform precise procedures in areas previously difficult to access. Its 3D high-definition camera provides an enhanced, magnified view, allowing surgeons to identify delicate structures with clarity during surgery. The single-port approach is particularly advantageous for surgeries in anatomically tight spaces, such as prostate cancer, gynecological cancers, and head and neck cancers. It can also be broadly applied to gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach and colon cancer, using laparoscopic techniques.Based on these advantages, Hanyang University Medical Center plans to perform various surgeries using the Da Vinci SP, such as hysterectomies and ovarian cyst surgeries in gynecology, gallbladder removals and hernia repairs in general surgery, and thyroid and head and neck cancer surgeries in otorhinolaryngology. It will also be used for urological procedures, including kidney and prostate cancer surgeries.Lee Gyeong-geun, Director of the Cancer Center and a professor of surgery, stated, “The Da Vinci SP is more than just medical equipment; it’s an innovative tool that contributes to faster recovery and improved quality of life for patients. We will continue striving to provide patient-centered, advanced medical services.” +82-43-713-8997~9 kimakorea@khidi.or.kr

Hanyang University Medical Center Introduces Single-Port Robot ‘Da Vinci SP’… to Enhance Medical Services

February 3,2025

Hanyang University Medical Center has announced the introduction and full-scale operation of the state-of-the-art robotic surgery system, Da Vinci SP.

With this addition, Hanyang University Medical Center now operates two cutting-edge robotic surgical systems, including the previously installed Da Vinci Xi, enabling improved medical services for patients.

It can also be broadly applied to gastrointestinal cancers, including stomach and colon cancer, using laparoscopic techniques.

Based on these advantages, Hanyang University Medical Center plans to perform various surgeries using the Da Vinci SP, such as hysterectomies and ovarian cyst surgeries in gynecology, gallbladder removals and hernia repairs in general surgery, and thyroid and head and neck cancer surgeries in otorhinolaryngology. It will also be used for urological procedures, including kidney and prostate cancer surgeries.

Lee Gyeong-geun, Director of the Cancer Center and a professor of surgery, stated, “The Da Vinci SP is more than just medical equipment; it’s an innovative tool that contributes to faster recovery and improved quality of life for patients. We will continue striving to provide patient-centered, advanced medical services.”
